Perceived value pricing is not based on the cost of the product, but it is the value which the customer thinks that he/she is deriving from consuming a product or a service. So let me ask you what is the price are you placing on your dreams?
”There is a reason things are cheap and there is a reason things are expensive” I usually say this as an excuse to splurge and spend a lot of money on skin care. There is a consensus that expensive things are expensive because they are quality products- the more expensive the better- well the same concept applies to our dreams. The bigger the price we pay the more extraordinary they’ll be. The difference is we have the ability to raise the ”money” to pay the price for our greatest dreams but we’d rather pay what we have now escape the process of ”fundraising” and settle for the closest thing that looks like our dreams.
There is something to be said about the quote above- ”perceived value of the product”. What is the perceived value of your dreams, what is your perception about your dreams, whatever answer you come up with determines how much you are willing to pay for them. The are of cause different prices for similar products- notice I said similar. Every time we go through an obstacle, a hurdle or a learning curve we get ”money” and only deep within ourselves do we truly know the price for our dreams and every time we get ”money” we are faced with the decision do we buy the version of the dream we can afford now or do we strengthen our fundraising abilities and get the original.
I wish to emphasize the notion of perception, because it is primarily your perception that determines how much you are willing to pay for your dream but here’s the thing perception changes ever so often, perception can also change because of another persons perception.
Time.
Perception changes with time. More often than not the time it takes to bring dreams to reality seems like forever and all time does is that it sieves all the settlers and leaves behind the people who will pay the full price for their dream. Time matures, time polishes, time turns carbon into graphite and if you wish exit the process then you’ll remain a brittle beautiful looking graphite that can only be used for pencil lead. The same time turns the same carbon to diamond, the difference is the time it all took under pressure. Note- It was the same carbon atom under the same pressure but one took more time.
Disappointment
Perception changes with disappointment. Whether it sharpens or becomes dull is completely up to you. Disappointment is to me like redirection, instead of saying go left and turn right disappointment says your answer is not on the left and darling your answer is not here…yet.
Small victories
small victories give us a sense of accomplishments they are there to tell you to run faster, not to give up and take a deep breath and go on, they don’t mean you’ve reached the finish line. After these victories you get ”money” its up to you if you wanna use it to get the cheaper version of your dream or you wanna keep going, get money and get the original ( you get where I am going with this)
Now non of this is easy neither is straight forward. Its not an exponential line that increases till kingdom come. Its a journey of thorny roads and barricaded entrances alternated by small victories. You can quit at any moment and settle for any version of the dream. But remember you alone will always know the cost of your dream.
